The city state of Vencenza rots, and Giorgianna, vengeful, enlightened, an outlaw and witch, seeks blood—the dues she’s owed for the crimes committed against her and those she loves.
As summer withers to autumn, she is faced with a deadly quest: infiltrate the ministerial court, unspool the inner circle’s darkest secrets, and aid the resistance in bringing forth a revolution to finally break the shackles of tyranny. All while remaining under pretences amidst the state’s most powerful and violent men.
But explosive tensions mount among the revolutionaries, bodies pile in the streets, the church gains frightening authority, and Giorgianna’s psyche teeters along its final breaking point—made only worse by a lovesickness more agonising than hunger.
With winter looming upon the horizon, civil war seems inevitable, and love could never be a saviour.
How dearly will those dues cost?
In this second and ultimate instalment of the grimdark dystopian mystery X gaslamp fantasy duology THE HYPOSTASIS OF DISSENT, politics and philosophy take centre stage, trust is tragically tested, and dark and bloody magic joins the fray of a battle for liberation.
Take note that this book is very heavy on worldbuilding and conlang (including footnotes and several POV styles (1st person limited; 3rd person limited; all past tense)), and features very dense prose, something which some readers may find detracts from immersion for them.
Content Warnings: government oppression, death, graphic gore, self-injury, mental illness, police brutality, violence against women and trans-identifying peoples, child death and murder, human experimentation, religion and religious violence, gun violence, classism, discussions of sexual violence (humans, minors), suicide, smoking (tobacco), alcohol, discussion of intravenous drug abuse, surgical procedures and needles, fires, sex (open-door, non-graphic), strong language.
ALL ROYALTIES earned from the title are donated to Doctors Without Borders, the Kurdish Red Crescent, and All for Armenia.

About Sfarda L. Gül
An artist and writer since her early childhood brought up in a police state, Sfarda L. Gül’s (alias) creative focus hones in on the macabre and introspective, the grotesque and juxtaposing—a deconstruction of social ideology and human suffering influenced by her upbringing, queerness, historically persecuted mixed ethnicity, and dark-sided emotional disposition. Every story strives to be unapologetically anti-authoritarian, decolonial, anti-cop, anarchist, and pro-humanity.
When not engaging in art, Sfarda is enthralled in ethnography, linguistics, filmmaking, and social activism aiding to uplift ethnic and queer minorities of her native Eastern Europe, SWANA, and Central Asia. She is the curator of independent publication Lacrimosity and Righteous Rage which hosts a Substack newsletter, and a YouTube video essayist at Anarchy on Page.
